Rise in COVID-19 cases may bring back disinfection programme in some UAE areas

The official spokesman for the UAE National Crisis and Emergency Management Authority (NCEMA) Dr Saif Al Dhaheri said that the rising number of coronavirus cases is a point of concern in the country.

Dhaheri made the statement during a briefing on the pandemic on Thursday.

Dhaheri said, “We stress the importance of following precautionary measures. The first of which is physical distancing and avoiding visits and gatherings, which may be a primary factor in any increase in the number of cases.

“The increase in the number of injuries resulted from non-compliance, and the sterilisation programme may return in some areas if the cases continue to rise…”

Dhaheri said, “We do not want to go backwards in our fight to combat COVID-19 due to a lack of commitment and responsibility towards society and the efforts made by competent authorities.

“We need everyone to continue adhering to the precautions in place in order for us to reduce cases to zero.”

He stressed that if this situation remains unchanged, we will return to the previous high percentage of cases, and also indicated that the list of penalties and fines for violating the regulations is considered.

“We hope that this deterrence will be sufficient for the negligent, and we will not reach the strict return again.”

Al-Dhaheri explained that the opening of the facilities and the return of life took place in a balanced manner with precautionary measures, but it came back with clear precautionary conditions and measures, stressing the need to wear medical masks and leave a distance of not less than two metres.
