A little girl and her father strolling on the streets of Merrick and suddenly heard a squawking sound but couldn’t realise where the strange sound was coming from. On chasing the voice they could figure it out that the noise was coming from somewhere from under the street.
The little girl peeped inside the storm drain and as soon they realised that a distressed swan was stuck inside the drain, prompting her father to call Nassau County Police.
The man waited until the police showed up with the assistance of a few licensed wildlife rehabilitators.
After several attempts the officers were able to rescue the poor swan and with the help of the eagle-eyed girl.
The officers lifted the drain grate and scooped the feathered critter up with a net, according to the video footage posted on the Nassau County Police Department.
The officers and wildlife specialists carefully pulled the swan to safety and freed the bird.
The bird appeared to be uninjured and it flapped wings in excitement it seems, and an officer picks it up.
A Twitter said, “Thank God for animal rescuers and the people around who help them. There are not always good outcomes which I'm sure takes a toll on them, but they still get up every day & try to help as many as they can. Knowing they can save a life is worth it. Fosters too”
Patricia Robinson said, “Great job, happy the swan will be ok! Thank you.
It is unclear how the swan landed in the drain.
