LSDA plans educational courses for workers

On the occasion of the International Literacy Day, celebrated on Sept.8 every year, the Labour Standards Development Authority (LSDA) in Sharjah affirmed its keen interest in providing education and training for workers, especially the basic skills of reading, writing, and mathematics, in an effort to improve their job opportunities and to ensure their active and productive participation in economic development.

Salem Yousef Al Qaseer, Chairman of the Labour Standards Development Authority in Sharjah said that the authority had previously coordinated many educational courses for workers, including courses to learn English in cooperation with the American University of Sharjah.

He added that the authority plans to conduct more of these courses and give workers the opportunity to acquire the skills that they lack. LSDA also plans to have permanent halls in labour public parks to hold such courses for workers.

He pointed out that these cultural activities of the Authority, which aims to integrate workers into the busy cultural life of Sharjah, come within its strategic plan aimed at improving the work environment in the emirate of Sharjah and providing the necessary support to employers and workers in the emirate.

The authority has implemented an ambitious plan, during which it succeeded in integrating hundreds of workers into the rich cultural scene of the city.

It coordinated the attendance of hundreds of workers of educational seminars and lectures that were held in their languages in the latest edition of the Book Fair at Sharjah Expo.

In this regard, and as part of its plan to promote the culture of reading among workers, the LSDA, in cooperation with the “Culture Without Borders” initiative in Sharjah, has launched a project to establish a private library in every labour accommodation.

These libraries will be provided with various sources of information and in several languages, and they will be constantly renewed to ensure that workers benefit from them.

This project is also part of the authority’s strategic plan aimed at expanding workers’ general education.

The authority aims to provide support to employers and workers in cooperation with the relevant government and private sectors, to improve the performance of the work environment and keep pace with the development witnessed by the emirate of Sharjah.
