During an extraordinary briefing on Thursday Dr Farida Al Hosani, the official spokesperson for the health sector in the country, announced 930 new cases of COVID-19, the highest number recorded in 4 months.
The new cases bring the total number of infections recorded in the country to 76,911 cases.
Dr Farida also announced that 586 new recoveries were registered, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 67,945.
5 more patients of COVID-19 died due the complication in the last 24 hours bringing the total number of deaths in the UAE to 398.
Dr Farida said that the rise in infections were the result of non-compliance with preventive measures.
“88% of infections were due to contact with others and gatherings,” she said.
“Among the factors associated with the causes of the increase is leniency in abiding by preventive measures such as physical distancing and wearing masks,” said Dr Farida.
