An Asian man, 28, was killed on the spot after being run over by a vehicle driven by an Emirati, 40, on the extension of the Al Wakalat Street in Ras Al Khaimah late on Tuesday.
According to Brigadier Ahmed Al Sam Al Naqbi, director of the traffic and patrols department at Ras Al Khaimah Police, the accident took place at 10:15pm when the young man was crossing the street from a no pedestrian crossing. The Emirati driver was surprised by the young man crossing the street and could not avoid hitting him, he added, noting that the young man succumbed to his serious injuries.

Al Naqbi pointed out that police patrols and a national ambulance rushed to the scene of the accident and transferred the body to the hospital for delivery to the victim’s parents. The concerned traffic authority conducted further investigations before referring the file of the accident to the competent authorities, he said.
Al Naqbi called on the public and pedestrians to cross roads from zebra crossings for their safety. He also called on drivers to be attentive while driving and abide by the speed limits.
