DUBAI: The Dubai Criminal Court ruled that a European woman, 19, be sentenced to two years in jail and fined Dhs50,000 to be followed by deportation after being convicted of importing over 4 kilogrammes of narcotics via Dubai Airports.
The case dated back to last January when a customs inspector, who suspected the suitcase of the European visitor, asked her to open the suitcase, where 13 cigarettes containing a white substance, probably cocaine were found inside her clothes. More 20 cigarettes were found later in the suspect’s clothes. The seized quantity totaled four kilograms of cocaine.
ASIAN INSURANCE CONSULTANT ACQUITTED: The Dubai Criminal Court acquitted an Asian female insurance company consultant and another of the same nationality of the charge of embezzling Dhs1.3 million from the customers of a national establishment engaged in insurance business.
The case dated back to January-May 2017, when a company in which the defendant worked as insurance consultant filed a complaint against her, accusing her of embezzling sums of money totaling Dhs1.3 million in settlement of insurance contracts for customers of a national establishment.
According to the accounting expert, the defendant embezzled Dhs1.3 million through 43 cheques of the account of the company she used to work for after communicating with the beneficiaries for paying their dues in cash.
According to the bill of indictment, the consultant in collaboration of a person of the same nationality encashed the beneficiaries’ cheques for Dhs1.3 million.
