Two held on human trafficking charges

The Dubai Public Prosecution referred an Asian driver and a woman to the Dubai Criminal Court for engaging in human trafficking on social media.
The case dated back to July when the woman communicated through Facebook with a maid and urged her to abscond from her sponsor, saying a job with a higher salary was available for her.
The driver received the victim and transported her to the buyer in a trap set by the police for Dhs3,500 with the intent of accessing the gang.
A policeman stated in the case papers that a tip-off was received from a reliable source that an Asian man was in the process of selling a woman for Dhs3,500, which was negotiable.
As the investigations showed that the tip-off was correct, the police communicated with the defendant and set a trap for him.
The defendant was caught red-handed.
During the public prosecution and police interrogations, the defendant confessed to deceiving maids in collaboration with the woman.
They used to encourage maids to abscond from their sponsors after luring them to higher salaries and then offered the maids for sale.
The defendant also confessed that most girls were forced into prostituition.
The court ordered the two defendants to be remanded in custody.
Recently, the Dubai Public Prosecution referred an Arab investor, 32, to the Dubai Criminal Court on charges of forging the registration card of Dhs221,000 Range Rover belonging to another person.
Separately, in a public announcement video, the Abu Dhabi Police (ADP) warned about the risks posed by illegally transporting passengers and the negative repercussions on their safety and security, while warning drivers of private vehicles from transporting passengers without a licence.
The ADP also urged the public to use official and licenced means of transportation that comply with international safety standards, as well as to cooperate in discouraging illegal transportation and improving security and community awareness by refraining from using such vehicles.
