The Criminal Investigation Department at Ajman Police arrested a gang of five people in less than 24 hours for stealing Dhs3.28 million using a cold weapon.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed Saeed Al Nuaimi, Director of Criminal Investigation Department at Ajman Police, a report was received by the operations room that some people were assaulted in their vehicle and a large sum of money was stolen from them.
A team of detectives was immediately formed to follow up the incident and arrest the suspects.
Upon checking the place, it was found that the victims who work for a major money exchange company in the emirate were about to transport Dhs3.28 million, using a civil car without taking any security measures.
Following intensive investigations, the suspects were found to be five people - three Arabs, one Gulf citizen and an Asian.
The suspects borrowed a vehicle from their friend to commit the crime and steal the money.
The highly experienced detectives arrested one of the suspects in Ajman and the rest were successively arrested one after the other in co-ordination with the police in Dubai and Fujairah.
The police recovered the stolen amount in less than 24 hours.
Al Nuaimi praised the efficiency and experience of the police and their efforts with which they were able to arrest the suspects in a record time, stressing the necessity to pay utmost attention when implementing the proper procedures for the transfer of funds.
He affirmed that the Ajman Police will be on the lookout and will deal firmly with those who try to tamper with the security of the homeland and the safety of citizens and residents.
