Police teams in Ajman, Abu Dhabi arrest gang of phone scams

The police teams in the emirates of Ajman and Abu Dhabi have arrested an Asian gang of seven persons, over the involvement in phone scams. They reportedly cheated others by claiming that they won prizes, in order to seize their money.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed Saeed Al Nuaimi, Director of the Criminal Investigations Department at Ajman Police, the security teams received information and reports about anonymous persons defrauding others by phone. They used SIMs registered with forged data and documents, he added.

“The gangsters were calling random numbers and informing their owners that they won financial prizes, and thus asking them to update their bank data, in order to obtain the prize, to use this data to seize their money,” Al Nuaimi added.

Accordingly, the investigation officers in Ajman and Abu Dhabi cooperated in the research and investigation to seize the gang.

After locating the gang, the necessary legal measures were taken to raid their hideout in one of the residential towers in the Rashidiya district in Ajman, where 7 Asian persons were arrested and 19 mobile phones and 70 SIMs were seized, which were used in the scams.

On confronting them with the charges, they confessed to crime, so they were detained until the completion of the legal procedures against them.

Al Nuaimi praised the efficiency of the CID teams, and the unlimited cooperation and support of Abu Dhabi Police, which contributed to arresting the gang.

He called on the public not to believe such calls and not hesitate to report them.
