Sharjah City Municipality has rolled out 400 touch-screen parking meters. This project comes as part of the municipality's efforts to transform its services into electronic and smart services to facilitate procedures for its customers.
Thabet Salem Al Tarifi, Director General of Sharjah Municipality, affirmed that using this technology in parking metres is a pioneering step in the middle east, and that it is in line with the municipality’s keenness to provide services for customers to save time as part of the project “Sabeq” which transfers all its services digitally instead of using papers.
Khalid Bin Falah Al Suwaidi, Assistant Director General of Customer Service at Sharjah Municipality, indicated that the introducing these metres come as part of the Municipality’s efforts to provide public parking around the clock in various streets of Sharjah especially in vital locations.
He noted that these new parking space locations bring the total paid parking spaces in the emirate to 8,519 spaces during 2020.
The new devices are considered a qualitative development to the parking payment methods in the city of sharjah.
They provide another smart option of parking fee payment.
The touch screen parking maters go in line with the use of the advanced digital technologies adopted in the innovative smart scanning vehicles that have been launched by the municipality to support the efforts of its staff in monitoring parking violations and provide data and statistics on parking occupancy rates.
The smart screening vehicles are equipped with advanced cameras that can identify the vehicle numbers recorded via the touch-screen parking meters.
