Iraqis are still in shock after last Saturday’s horrific incident in which a mother was captured on CCTV throwing her two small children into the Tigris River.
The heartless woman resorted to the act due to disagreements with her divorced husband, the father of the two children.
A surveillance camera captured the moments the heinous crime was committed.
“The woman walked close to the fence of the bridge and threw the children as if they were a bag of trash,” said one social media user after seeing the video.
Following an extensive search operation, the security teams were able to locate the bodies of Hur Mohammed, 3, and Masuma Mohammed, one year and eight months old.
Iraqi media spoke to Abu Tahsin Deraji, the children’s paternal grandparent.
Tahsin said, “This crime had been long planned for. It has been nearly two months since this woman separated from her husband.”
Tahsin also said the woman is of bad character. He said we caught her in January with her lover.
He said, “We want to divorce her in court.”
After that we never spoke about this matter in any place, nor did we show the photographs to anyone.

The incident happened on Al-Aimmah Bridge, which connects the areas of Adhamiya.
The Iraqi security forces arrested the woman and took her into custody.
After repeated questioning, the woman confessed to the act, saying that she had done so due to a dispute with her ex-husband and that she wanted to take revenge.
On Iraqi social media, the devastated father’s video was also doing the rounds. The video clip showed the father at the scene of the crime, crying loudly and inconsolably for his two children, while being assisted by the search and rescue teams.
