The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced an Asian to two years in jail, to be followed by deportation, and fined him Dhs140,000, after he was convicted of offering a bribe to a policeman.
The court also acquitted two others of complicity in the crime.
In detail, the suspect, who was held in a police station, offered Dhs50,000, a Rolex watch, a monthly salary of Dhs20,000, and a Mercedes car as a bribe to a policeman so that he could escape from the police station where he was held on charges related to drug trafficking.
The incident dates back to the time when a policeman in a police station was surprised by a person who speaks Arabic asking to help him flee from prison in return for money and gifts.
The policeman reported in the incident to his chief who asked him to claim he had accepted the bribe until a trap was set for the suspect.
The policeman went to the person to agree with him about the payment and the suspect asked him to use his phone to talk to his friends out.
He reportedly asked them for Dhs15,000 which he would give as a bribe in return for fleeing the police station.
The date was set and the police set a trap for the suspects. Two other suspects were arrested in possession of part of the agreed bribe.
