India’s coronavirus cases near 8 million

India confirmed 43,893 new coronavirus cases in a matter of 24 hours, taking the total tally to 8 million in the world's second-worst infected country.
The Indian capital New Delhi reported the highest single-day number of cases of 4,853 on Wednesday.

The Indian health ministry also reported 508 deaths from the virus across the country in the past 24 hours, raising the tally to 120,010.
New Delhi reported the highest single-day number of cases of 4,853 on Wednesday.
In recent reports India claimed that 90 per cent of coronavirus patients have recovered so far since the beginning of the pandemic. The country reported its first case on Jan.30.
On Wednesday the health authorities in one of the India's most populous states, Bihar, faced a big test with the country's first state assembly election being held since the epidemic began.
A polling officer in the city of Gaya, who declined to be identified, as he was not authorised to speak to the media said, "face masks and sanitisers have been provided to the staff deployed on election duty."
India’s caseload is second in the world behind the United States, which has over 8.7 million confirmed cases.
In September, India hit a peak of nearly 100,000 reported cases in a single day, but since then daily infections have fallen by more than half and deaths by about a third.
