Russia has reported record 19,768 new coronavirus infections and 389 new fatalities, both the highest since the beginning of the pandemic, with that 29,217 people have been killed by Covid-19 in the country.
Russia has listed a total of 1,693,454 cases of infection.
Russian authorities have so far shunned imposing a second lockdown or shutting down businesses nationwide, insisting that the health care system is able to cope with the surge as the number of daily new infections in Russia hitting new records every week this month.

According to the media reports on Wednesday, more than 47.25 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus globally and 1,209,590 have died.

With 231,606 deaths and over 9,332,208 million confirmed cases, the United States tops the list of twenty countries with the highest recorded infections and deaths in the world, followed by India, Brazil and Russia.
Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
Putin spoke in favour of a regionalised approach with targeted measures in the most affected cities and region.
Other countries, including France and England, tried to implement this strategy before abandoning it in favour of national lockdowns due to the exponential growth of virus cases.
Russian consumer safety regulator Rospotrebnadzor has reinforced protective measures such as mandatory mask-wearing in busy areas such as public transport and elevators.
It has also recommended that public events at night be banned and restaurants and bars closed, but very few regions have followed the advice.
