Philadelphia police officers have detained two men outside a polling station in Pennsylvania, local media reported on Friday.

According to the police, they are investigating an alleged plot to attack the city’s Pennsylvania Convention Center, a battleground state yet to declare a winner in the presidential election, where votes from the hotly contested presidential election are being counted.

Action News, an ABC affiliate, reported the news earlier. Video footage broadcast by the outlet showed a number of police officials at the scene.

The US Postal Service (USPS) said about 1,700 ballots had been identified in Pennsylvania at processing facilities during two sweeps late on Thursday and were in the process of being delivered to election officials.

Trump has said repeatedly without evidence that mail-in votes are prone to fraud, although election experts say that is rare in US elections.

Shortly after 10pm (0300 GMT) two men were detained outside the Philadelphia Convention Centre where vote counting is ongoing, according to the Philadephia Inquirer.

The local newspaper said the men were detained following a tip-off, first reported by 6ABC Action News Thursday night, that an armed group were heading to the center.

No injuries have been reported.
