The Abu Dhabi Police have arrested a gang of three Asians for trafficking and promoting narcotics and psychotropic substances.
The arrest took place when the police seized 45.267 kilogrammes of heroin and crystal meth from them.
The gang confessed to bringing narcotics from outside the country and distributing them in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah.
Colonel Taher Al Dhaheri, Director of the Anti-Narcotics Directorate, said the secret operation carried out by the Abu Dhabi Police was the main reason for busting this criminal network.
Recently, the Dubai Public Prosecution referred a 24- year-old Asian visitor to criminal court for attempting to smuggle 1.079kg of heroin into Dubai Airport.
Official records indicate that the defendant was suspected by one of the customs officers when entering the airport.
He was asked by the customs officers to undergo a police search.
During the search it was found that the defendant had 72 capsules of heroin, weighing 1.079kg.
Police immediately arrested the defendant, who now faces drug smuggling charges.
