Two Asian fishermen suffered moderate burns when a fishing boat caught fire and exploded on Tuesday morning in the fishing port in the coast of Ghalila, about 29 kilometres north of Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) city.
Khalifa Al Muhairi, head of the Ras Al Khaimah Cooperative Society for Fishermen, explained that the incident occurred around 8:30 am on Tuesday when the two fishermen were replacing the boat battery.
Al Muhairi indicated that the Society had received a report about the incident, adding that the fishermen on the coast pulled the burning boat out of the port to the depth of the sea, which prevented the burning of some boats nearby.
One of Ghalila’s residents explained that the fishermen rushed to rescue their two colleagues and put out the fire by pushing the boat towards the sea.
Dr Ahmed Al Mahboubi, director of Shaam Hospital, indicated that the fishermen were transferred to the hospital, where they received first aid and medical care, stressing that their condition was stable.
