Dutch authorities slaughtered 190,000 chickens after bird flu outbreak in at least two poultry farms, according to the agriculture ministry on Sunday.
100,000 hens were culled at a Hekendorp and 90,000 chicks at Witmarsum.
In the statement by the ministry, “a highly-contagious strain of H5 variant” was suspected in the chickens. Both farms were cleared to prevent further spread of the disease."

Since October, bird flu has been discovered at different farms around the Netherlands. The seasonal flu is blamed on migratory birds.
Preventive indoor containment has been imposed on all commercial poultry farms following the death of two swans that were carriers of H5N8 variety of bird flu.
