Maharashtra's COVID-19 deaths dropped below 100 for the second time as India has recorded 44,059 new coronavirus cases, taking its total to 9.14 million, data from the health ministry showed on Monday.
Though new cases continued to increase, amid apprehensions of a second wave India has the second-highest number of infections in the world, after the United States, but the rate of increase in India has dipped since it hit a peak in September.

After days of three-digit figures, the state deaths dropped to 50, taking the fatalities to 46,623 now in Maharashtra. Previously, the state had reported 51 fatalities on May 18.

Shooting above the 5,000 mark for the fifth day, the state recorded 5,753 new infections, taking its tally to 17,80,208.
New daily cases have come in at fewer than 50,000 for more than two weeks, according to a Reuters tally.
Deaths rose by 511, according to the latest health ministry data, taking the total to 133,738.
