The UAE Public Prosecution has warned residents of using fake Internet Protocol (IP) address to work or commit any nuisance in the society.
The Public Prosecution said using fake addresses is a crime and publishable by law.
The authorities said that if anyone is caught using a fake IP address, the person will face imprisonment or a fine of Dhs500,000 to Dhs2million. The person may be charged with both.
The prosecution said on its Twitter account, “Punishment for circumventing the protocol address of the information network with the intention of committing a crime or preventing its discovery.”
The prosecution shared the statement with a video education every one of the consequences.
In the post, the Public Prosecution defined the IP address as the numerical label assigned to any information technology media participating in computer network, which is used for communication purposes.
"According to Article 9 of the Federal Law No.5 for 2012 on combating cybercrimes and its amendments, whoever uses a fraudulent IP address by using a false address or a third party address by any other means for the purpose of committing a crime or preventing its discovery, shall be punished by imprisonment and a fine of not less than Dhs500,000 and not in excess of Dhs2,000,000, or either of these two penalties," it added.
