Group of men accused of raping girl, posting video online arrested in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi Police are investigating a group of young men accused of raping a girl and uploading videos of the attack on several social media platforms.

In a statement on Thursday, the UAE Attorney General Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, said that Abu Dhabi Police arrested the men on Wednesday and are currently "undergoing extensive investigations under the direct supervision of the Public Prosecutor."

An investigation into the incident had been ordered by the UAE Attorney General on Wednesday following an urgent report that was submitted by the Public Prosecution's federal investigation office. Police were able to make the arrests on the same day.

The Attorney General added that the incident contained "a degree of depravity that is not acceptable in UAE society," reassuring the public that authorities will stand decisively against those who violate the morals and social values of Emirati society and disturb public safety.

In July, a 23-year-old Asian seller was jailed and referred to criminal court for raping a housewife, threatening her with a knife and video-graphing the rape for the purpose of blackmailing.

The 39-year-old victim testified that on the day of the incident, she was accompanying her son to the school bus, then headed back to her apartment to suddenly find the defendant attacking her and holding a knife to her throat to force her into the apartment.

The victim’s screams were not heard by anyone after they entered the apartment.

She tried to fight him back, but he pushed her into the bedroom and forced her to take her clothes off, then recorded a video and threatened to post it online to guarantee that she won’t report the incident.

The defendant then forced dragged the victim to the bed and raped her, then stole Dhs200 from her purse.

Before leaving the scene, the defendant threatened to know the whereabouts of the victim, and blackmailed her with the video to ensure her silence.

The terrified victim was thankful that she was safe, and immediately told her husband about the incident who in his turn reported it to police.

Police investigations revealed the defendant’s whereabouts and was arrested by police within two days from the incident.
