The Ajman Police deployed the smart helmet as part of a series of preventive and precautionary measures to limit the spread of the coronavirus.
The helmet has special features that detect symptoms of infection with the coronavirus by remotely measuring people's temperatures, recognizing faces and reading license plates.
Lieutenant Colonel Saif Abdullah Al Falasi, Director of Traffic and Patrols Department at Ajman Police, said that the use of the smart helmet came within the procedures of the Ministry of Interior and Ajman Police to enhance the quality of life by preserving human health and safety, and strengthening preventive measures in early detection of cases of infection in roads and public places, to limit the spread virus.
Colonel Saif added that the smart helmet is equipped with features and sensors that enable it to automatically measure the temperature of pedestrians from a distance of up to 5 metres as soon as they pass in front of the helmet, and the examination rate reaches 200 people per minute, and it can identify people whose body temperature exceeds 37.3° Celsius.
The police stop the person on whom the helmet detects symptoms of fever, and he is transferred by the competent authorities to the nearest medical facility from the site to take the necessary measures.
The Director of the Traffic and Patrols Department indicated that the use of the smart helmet greatly contributed to limiting the spread of the virus in public places.
The Ajman Police managed to conduct a complete survey of tourist areas and public places in the emirate, such as parks and beaches, in addition to conducting a comprehensive survey of 778 shops and a shopping centre, groceries and shops in all areas of the emirate.
The number of those examined with the smart helmet reached 33,910, and during which police personnel provided awareness to more than 18,740 people about the importance of taking precautionary and preventive measures such as wearing a mask and gloves and maintaining social distancing.
The police issued 2031 violations of non-compliance with precautionary measures in public places.
