The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced an Asian salesman to life in jail after he was convicted of assaulting a housewife. The court also sentenced the suspect to one year in jail, to be followed by deportation, and fined him Dhs200 on charges of assault and threatening the victim.
Details date back to Feb 2020, when the victim’s husband submitted a report complaining that his wife was assaulted and threatened with a knife after delivering their son to the school bus.
The victim testified that the suspect followed her to her flat and threatened her with a knife, asking her to enter the flat where she pushed him, but he controlled her, assaulted and photographed her.
He then stole Dhs200 from her purse, threatened her with publishing her photos if she reported the police and fled.
Recently, the Abu Dhabi Court of First Instance obligated a person to pay another Dhs10,000 in compensation for moral damages caused to him after he insulted him in front of his colleagues and threatened him with imprisonment. The court rejected obligating the victim to pay compensation, noting that the case papers did not include any evidence of material damage. Details of the case date back to an earlier time when the plaintiff filed a lawsuit demanding the defendant to pay him Dhs60,000 in compensation for the moral and material damages he suffered, indicating that the suspect insulted him in front of his colleagues and threatened him with imprisonment. The court affirmed that it had upheld the verdict of the appellate court that convicted the suspect, so the verdict became final.
Recently, a 28-year-old Asian employee was jailed and referred to Criminal Court on attempted forgery charges in Dubai. Official records point out that the defendant, who works for the victim telecom company, had used another individual’s ID to benefit from the company’s provided services.
The defendant had used the authority given to him to access the company’s system and register another individual’s ID to sell a SIM card and benefit from it. The company’s sales director was the one who unveiled the defendant’s crime, and had taken necessary procedures to legally punish the defendant for his doing.
