An Asian visitor was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment and was fined Dhs50,000 after he was charged with trafficking of 560g of Methamphetamine into Dubai.
The case indicates that customs officers suspected the defendant while he was entering the country and accordingly asked him to undergo a body scanner.
The scanner revealed the presence of strange objects inside of his stomach, and when asked about it, the defendant confessed to carrying drugs and attempting to smuggle it.
A number of 86 capsules of drugs were found inside the defendant’s stomach, weighing 560g in total.
The defendant confessed that he was going to smuggle the drugs to deliver it to another man for an amount of $1000.
In another drug trafficking bust, an Asian man was sentenced to 5 years of jail-term and was fined Dhs20,000 for facilitating drugs to his accomplice friend.
Police received a tip-off about the accomplice’s drug possession and immediately ambushed him, only to learn that he was supplied by the defendant.
They were both arrested and prosecuted on drug trafficking charges.
