Taiwan to quarantine more than 5,000

Taiwan to impose quarantine on more than 5,000 people due to a rare cluster of COVID-19 connected to a hospital, said the health minister on Sunday.

Since the worldwide outbreak of the virus, Taiwan has curtailed the pandemic, recording 890 imported cases. However, since Jan.12 there has been a widespread of transmission at a hospital.

Although only 15 people have been infected in the hospital, a small number in comparison to other parts of the world, the government has cancelled large-scale events related to the upcoming Lunar New Year.

Health Minister Chen Shih-Chung told reporters that they will expand the number of people who have to quarantine at home for 14 days who may have had contact with the infected patients from the hospital cluster.

The government has been testing all of those who have been in quarantine and has been announcing new cases amongst them as they are confirmed.
