A 36-year-old Arab man was arrested and referred to criminal court for impersonating a police officer and robbing two Asians of Dhs1,500 in Dubai.
The two Asian victims reported the incident to police last November, claiming that they were assaulted and robbed by the defendant.
The victims testified that while they were standing at a Dubai shop’s parking spot, the defendant approached them and suddenly slapped them both and claimed to be an undercover police officer.
The shocked victims did not hesitate to comply with the defendant’s orders as he asked one of the victims to show his ID.
Once the victim took out his wallet for the ID, the defendant grabbed it and immediately starting running away. This is when the victims realised they were fooled by a thief who wasn’t a police officer.
They both filed a police report and the defendant was identified and apprehended within a record time.
Dubai courts prosecuted the defendant on robbery charges and referred him to criminal court to receive maximum punishment for his crime.
