The Dubai Criminal Court sent a 26-year-old Asian national, 10 years behind bars, to be followed by deportation and fined him Dhs50,000, on charges of bringing and possessing 8,6 kilogrammes of drugs.
Details date back to February 2020 when the suspect was arrested attempting to smuggle 8 rolls of drugs, weighing 8.6 kilogrammes from his country to the UAE, in his luggage.
The suspect confessed that he brought the drugs and possessed them , adding that he planned to hand them over to another person inside the UAE.
Meanwhile, the Dubai Criminal Court sentenced a sales representative to three months in jail to be followed by deportation and fined him Dhs5,000 after he was convicted for offering Dhs100 as a bribe to a security supervisor in return for allowing a farmer to enter an area under construction.
The case dated back to last October when the security supervisor filed a complaint about the defendant’s attempt to bribe him in return for forging an entry permit to an enterprise for a farmer.
During the interrogations, the security supervisor stated that the defendant, who worked as a marketing specialist in a company, presented a folded entry permit with Dhs100 inside to him, noting that the entry permit contained incorrect data.
Separately, the Public Prosecution ordered the arrest and provisional detention of four Arab nationals accused of offending an Asian resident.
After receiving a report from the Public Prosecution’s Federal Investigation Office, the prosecutors remanded them in custody.
According to the report, the accused posted a video on the Internet for them making fun of the victim and abusing him physically.
The arrested face charges of physical abuse, violation of privacy using media outlets and immoral conduct.
Separately, the Dubai Criminal Court sentenced an African to six months in jail, to be followed by deportation, after he was convicted of conniving with others to steal Dhs90,000 under duress on a public road from an Asian after impersonating security men.
