As many as four Asian workers were killed and nine others sustained serious, moderate and minor injuries when their minibus swerved abruptly and overturned on the new Khorfakkan road on Tuesday.
Immediately after the minibus overturned, the road was closed in both directions to enable a helicopter from the Sharjah Air Wing to hospitalise the injured.
According to Major Abdullah Al Mandhari, Head of Traffic and Patrols Section at Sharjah Police, a report was received by the operations room at 6:10am on Tuesday that a 14-passenger minibus belonging to a company overturned on the new Khorfakkan road at Al Seyouh intersection heading to Tawi Al Saman intersection.
Traffic patrols as well as members of traffic accidents committee at Sharjah Police, national ambulance and a helicopter belonging to Sharjah Air Wing rushed to the scene of the accident and started rescuing the injured.
The patrols also closed the road in both directions to enable the helicopter and ambulance vehicles to evacuate the injured and transport them to a number of hospitals in Sharjah and other emirates.
Preliminary investigations showed that the bus overturned after it had swerved abruptly.
