The Sharjah Department of Economic Development shut down a women’s salon and a hypermarket in the emirate due to their failure to abide by the decisions related to preventive and precautionary measures and regulations to curb the spread of COVID-19.
The shutdown decision was taken during the inspection tours and campaigns continuously carried out by the Commercial Control and Protection Department in co-operation with all competent authorities in the emirate to ensure the safety of all economic practices in the emirate’s economic establishments.

More efforts are being currently made by the department to ensure that all establishments abide by the instructions and circulars issued recently by the department and by the precautionary and preventive measures.
The department stated that the shutdown facilities committed a number of violations which showed that they were not committed to implementing the decisions related to preventive measures and precautionary regulations. These included exceeding the specified capacity of the facility and failing to abide by physical distancing rules.

The department affirmed that it would show no leniency in violating any establishment that does not abide by the measures and regulations issued by the concerned authorities in the emirate. It stressed the importance for everybody to fully co-operate with the competent authorities to achieve the desired goals of the measures set to protect the society during the current circumstances.
The department commended the efforts of the Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Committee in the emirate to follow up the implementation of all precautionary and preventive measures issued by the UAE and Sharjah Executive Council to curb the spread of COVID-19.
