Asian visitor gets 10 years' jail for smuggling heroin into Dubai

An Asian visitor was sentenced to 10 years in jail and was fined Dhs50,000 for smuggling 1,250g of heroin into Dubai.
The Asian visitor will be deported after serving his sentence.
The drug trafficking case dates back to October last year, when police were alerted by the defendant’s drug activity, and set up a plan to catch him red-handed and seize the drugs in his possession.
The defendant was arrested in possession of 5 plastic bags containing 155 capsules of heroin that weigh 1,250g.
He was immediately prosecuted on drug trafficking charges by Dubai courts.
During police investigations, the defendant confessed to smuggling the heroin capsules in the intention of selling them.
