Dubai’s premier fresh food market, the Waterfront Market - Deira, will celebrate and honour the UAE’s fishing industry with its very own annual celebration, The Biggest Catch on Wednesday (March 24) from 6:30pm to 10:00pm.
Marking its fourth-year anniversary, The Biggest Catch is a festival created to bring together the community to honour one of the deeply embedded traditions in the UAE’s culture and the well-respected fishing community who contribute to making the Waterfront Market what it is today.
The Waterfront Market visitors will see the fishermen coming back with their catch and getting ready for the weighing process.
The winner will then be honoured and given a Waterfront Market trophy while commemorative plaques and medals will be given to the runners-up and the rest of the participants.
Mohammed Al Madani, Waterfront Market Manager said; “The Waterfront Market’s very own celebration – The Biggest Catch – is a humbling day of celebrations which honours the UAE roots and educates new generations of what was once the country’s main trade and source of wealth. We wholeheartedly thank the fishing community for their continuous hard work and contribution to our society.”
The Biggest Catch promises plenty of fun and offers a range of activities and a celebratory barbecue for the whole family.
An ideal day to try the fresh goods offered at the Waterfront Market and experience the taste of its ultimate fish and seafood whilst honouring an important cultural heritage.
The rest of the evening can be spent enjoying the assortment of family friendly carnival games and entertainment, food or getting good bargains. Visitors can also participate in fun competitions on the day like guessing the weight of the fishermen’s catch for a chance to win a grand prize.
All customers and staff at the Waterfront Market have to practise social distancing, masks are compulsory whilst gloves are optional.
Those who are not wearing the necessary protective gear will not be allowed to enter.
A recent report issued by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) highlighted the ambitious projects launched by the UAE in the field of fish farming, noting that such projects reflect the progress in the deployment of advanced technologies to maintain sustainable fishing production and consolidate national food security.
