The Dubai Court of Appeal has reduced the sentence of a gang member from 10 to 3 years in jail, followed by deportation and a Dhs200,000 fine.
The defendant was a member of a four-man gang, Asian and African nationals, who were arrested on robbery charges, impersonating police officers, kidnapping two victims and running over one of them.
The victim testified that he was with the company of his friend while heading to the exchange to deposit the Dhs200,000, and was suddenly interrupted by the gang members who introduced themselves as police officers.

Afterwards, they pulled off in a sand area and dragged the victims out of the car to assault and run over one of them while fleeing the scene.
Police were alerted by the incident, and investigations were carried out to successfully identify and apprehend two of the defendants.
The gang members were arrested one by one, and sentenced to 10 years in jail and a Dhs200,000 fine by the Dubai Criminal Court.
One of the defendants appealed the sentence until it was reduced from 10 to 3 years in jail.
