Sharjah nurseries to re-open from Sunday

Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management team (ECDMT) of Sharjah and the Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA), announced on Tuesday that public and private nurses in Sharjah will resume work on the basis of in-person classes as of March 28, with strict COVID-19 safety protocols.

“The decision was taken after conducting a number of inspection visits and tours to ensure the full adherence to the safety measures to provide a safe and healthy environment for kids,” the ECDMT pointed out.

Since the outbreak of the new coronavirus pandemic, the SPEA has been keen to provide safe health conditions in all schools and nurseries, through a guidebook distributed to schools, nurseries and other educational institutions.

Dr Muhadditha Al Hashimi, Chairperson of the SPEA affirmed the Authority’s keenness on the health and safety of all staff in the educational field, stressing the importance of educational stability and following up on emergencies and developments arising due to the repercussions of the pandemic.

Al Hashemi explained that the safety and security of students and teachers is the first priority of the SPEA and that the decision of reopening nurseries came after making sure of the nurseries’ commitment and full readiness.

“The pandemic enforced us to take strict decisions about switching to remote education, or allowing schools and nurseries to receive students, in accordance with precautionary measures, to ensure the safety of everyone,” She added.

SPEA indicated that, after distributing the guidebook, monitoring visits to all private and government schools and nurseries were carried out by a group of educational experts.

“These visits aimed to ensure the commitment of the 74 nurseries of Sharjah and schools to the terms of the guidebook which obligate them to conduct the lab test every two weeks, sterilize the tools used, not to provide meals, as parents are responsible for providing food for their children, to assign a health and safety official who is trained to apply instructions, controls and precautionary requirements,” the authority indicated.
