No fine if utility bill payment is delayed up to a month in Sharjah

The Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (Sewa) announced extending paying bills without penalties for one month in case the bill value is less than Dhs1,000 and for 15 days in case the bill value is more than Dhs1,000, instead of 7 days.

Hamed Taher Al Hajj, Director of the Customer Service Department, indicated that the decision comes in response to the subscribers' demands so that they can pay the bills without fines.

Sewa bills are issued through 4 reading cycles, each of which is assigned to certain areas of the Emirate.

Bills of the first cycle are issued monthly on the 7th day and should be paid without penalty until the 21st of the same month.

The second cycle bills are released monthly on the 14th and can be paid until the first day of the following month.

The third cycle bills are issued monthly on the 21st and can be paid during the first 7 days of the following month.

The fourth cycle bills are issued monthly on the 28th and can be paid without penalty until the 14th of the following month.

Hussein Al Askar, Deputy Director of the Customer Service Department explained that in case the value of the bill was less than Dhs1,000, it can be paid without a penalty within a month from the date of issuance, and if it is not paid, a fine of Dhs25 will be imposed.

But, according to Askar, no fine is imposed if the remaining amount is less than Dhs300.

Askar pointed out that subscribers can find the full details and history of their reading cycle through Sewa's website, the smart app, service offices, or by contacting the call centre number 991.
