In less than 24 hours, the Dubai Police have arrested a European driver for killing an Arab in a hit-and-run and fleeing the crime scene.
Brigadier Abdullah Khadim Sorour Al-Maasim, Director of Bur Dubai Police Station, said the Command and Control Room received a tip-off at 1:00 am reporting a hit-and-run accident on Dubai-Al Ain Road where the victim was lying dead.
"A traffic patrol, an ambulance, and paramedics were immediately dispatched to the reported spot," Al Maasim confirmed.
"With further investigation, the police officers, who were assigned to the case, discovered that the victim's car broke down and he was pulling over on the shoulder of the road to check it when the suspect's speeding vehicle ran over him and fled the scene," Al Maasim added.
"The competent investigators were able to locate and arrest the European driver and his vehicle in less than a day," he continued.
"The driver admitted to his crime and justified abandoning the dying victim and fleeing the scene by stating that he was taken aback by what happened and was in fear of the consequences," Director of Bur Dubai Police Station added.
Brigadier Al Maasim noted that the suspect made a grieve mistake when he chose to flee the scene after the accident.
"In cases like these, suspects will be convicted of two crimes and an escape altered the case from being a traffic accident to a criminal one," he added.
