The Abu Dhabi Police have warned of fake websites bearing names of famous restaurants and stores and displaying alluring offers through which balance of credit cards is withdrawn after completing the payment of fees on such fake websites.
Maj. Gen. Mohammad Suhail Al Rashidi, Director of the Criminal Security Division, affirmed the Abu Dhabi Police’s interest in continuously alerting the public about fraudulent tricks and phishing via the Internet and social media websites.

He also pointed to the need for caution when dealing with strangers, especially that some create fake accounts on those sites with the aim of swindling, fraud or phishing.
“The more the Internet spreads, the more cybercrimes increase, and those swindlers often exploit the people who seek to obtain specific services or products at competitive prices. Those websites usually have no headquarters in the country or reliable phone numbers,” he added.
Al Rashidi also confirmed that a number of various related cases have been registered with the security departments.
For his part, Col. Rashid Khalaf Al Dhaheri, Director of the Criminal Investigations Directorate-Criminal Security Division appealed to the public in case of exposure to fraud to quickly report it by contacting the 24/7 Aman service on the toll-free 8002626 (AMAN2626) or by SMS to 2828 or via e-mail ([email protected]) or through the smart application of the Abu Dhabi Police.
