A man has been arrested for breaching the pulpit of Imam delivering the sermon before Friday prayers at the Grand Mosque.
Makkah Region Police said on Twitter, “A man who charged at the pulpit from which the imam was delivering the sermon before Friday prayers at the Grand Mosque has been arrested.
“The man, dressed in an Ihram and brandishing a stick, was quickly apprehended and legal procedures against him have been taken.”
A video showed the man hotfooting towards the Imam before being pinned to the ground by security personnel.
Social media users have praised the role of security personnel in the Grand Mosque in their dealing with the issue.
Twitterati expressed great pride in the role that the security men played in controlling the situation.
In October 2020, a car crashed into one of the gates of the Makkah Grand Mosque, prompting a security scare in the kingdom.
Local media sources said a Saudi man was behind the wheel. The man was arrested at the site.
The Makkah region governorate spokesperson Sultan Al Dosari said that the car hit one of the entrance gates at the Grand Mosque.
Investigations revealed that the car lost control and hit the gate.
The driver has been taken into custody. The police said, “He was referred to the public prosecution."
