A lioness attacked her trainer during a circus show in Russia.
Coach Maxim Orlov survived the onslaught of the Vega lioness.
The attack raised calls to prevent the use of animals in the circus, especially after a video showed the children present were horrified at the sight of Vega attacking and biting the coach, who was transferred to the Moskovo Hospital in the Novosibirsk region.
"The lioness rose up, and when we started to run, a loud roar was heard from the rest of the animals," said a witness.
"Cases like this are very rare…," the trainer said.
"Vega is 5 years old and has been trained since childhood. We will not make shows with her after this attack, and we will negotiate with zoos to replace her with a young cub."
The trainer blamed the Ural Mobile Circus attack on stopping work during the pandemic.
