6 months’ jail for fake video clip on TikTok upheld

The Dubai Appellate Court upheld the court of first instance verdict to imprison an Asian waiter for 6 months, to be followed by deportation, besides a Dhs5,000 fine. The suspect was charged with publishing a fake video clip on TikTok, which can disturb the public order and terrify people.
Details of the incident date back to earlier when the security bodies in the Emirate spotted a video containing shooting sounds, and the voices of terrified persons on TikTok.
According to the General Directorate of Criminal Evidence and Crime department, the video publisher was spotted and arrested.
On being interrogated, he confessed to fabricating the clip by merging sounds and images.
He also confessed to uploading the video on his own account in TikTok to increase his followers’ number.
