The Dubai Criminal Court jailed a four-man African gang for 3 years and fined Dhs2,400 for holding a Gulf national hostage, brutally assaulting and robbing him in Dubai.
The case dates back to June 2020, the victim was lured by one of the female defendants, who pretended to be a European national and approached him through social media.
The defendant convinced the victim to meeting her at an apartment to get to know each other better and the victim fell for it.
The victim headed to the address given by her, and knocked the door only to find a gang of 6 people who suddenly attacked him.
He was tied up and beaten to give up the money he had and his credit card’s password.
When the victim refused to give up the credit card’s number, one of the defendants stripped him naked and poured hot water on his private parts.
They managed to get the password, but failed to withdraw money from the victim’s account.
So, they continued assaulting the victim and filming him naked until he fell unconscious.
The gang members got scared when the victim fell unconscious, and waited until he woke up then gave him some water and his phone back.
They fled the apartment with Dhs2,400, which they took from the victim.
Luckily, the victim was able to leave the apartment and reached out for the nearest police patrol while being in pain because of the burns he sustained.
He was transferred to the nearest hospital, where it was revealed that he sustained second-degree burns and a 10% permanent disability.
Four of the defendants were apprehended, while the other two are runways.
Police found video records of different victims being assaulted by the gang one of the defendants’ phones, but unfortunately, no police report were filed from any of them.
