Fire guts shop at Fujairah Friday Market, no casualty reported

The firefighting teams on Thursday morning controlled a fire that broke out in a shop in the Friday Market (Souq Al Juma’ah) in Masafi area, about 35 km west of Fujairah,

Brigadier Ali Obaid Al Tunaiji, Director of the Civil Defence Department in Fujairah, said that the operations room was alerted about the fire at a shop in the market at 1:53 am on Thursday.

The Friday Market-in Fujairah is one of the tourist destinations in the Emirate.

The Civil Defence Department immediately dispatched firefighting teams from Masafi Station to the site.

A shop selling seedlings, pottery and children's toys had caught fire.No injury were reported, however, the blaze gutted the shop's contents.

"The department dispatched another firefighting team from Manama Station to the fire’s scene, in addition to others from the Civil Defence Station in Fujairah city," Al Tunaiji added.

He added that the firefighting teams succeeded in containing the fire and preventing it from spreading to other shops, especially that the burning shop contained flammable materials such as textiles, carpets and furniture.
