Special Assistant to Punjab Chief Minister Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan held Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Member of the National Assembly Qadir Mandokhel after a nasty altercation in a TV talk show.
To avert the attack and get himself disentangled, Mandokhel tried to twist her right hand. They exchanged severe language.
The shouting match continued for nearly two minutes with the programme host and his assisting staff beseeching the two fighters to calm down.
The video clip immediately went viral on social media provoking a multitude of comments favouring or disfavouring the two combatants.
Mandokhel and Dr Awan can be seen screaming at each other and hurling accusations of corruption.
The third participant, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Member of the Punjab Assembly, Azma Bukhari, kept herself out of the brawl and seemed to be enjoying the saga.
Dr Awan alleged that Mandokhel used foul language against her and her late father, which angered her. She said that a part of the video clip was being shared on social media, adding that it was telling just one side of the story.
She asked the TV channel to release the full video of the incident. During the talk show, she said, Mandokhel threatened her and insulted her late father.
"I had to take an extreme step in my defence," she later tweeted. She said that after holding consultations, she will take legal action against Mandokhel.
In a video message released later, Dr Awan poured the entire blame on the PPP MP for the fracas.
