The Dubai Public Prosecution referred a 39-year-old African sales representative to the Criminal Court on charges of bringing and possessing one and a half kilogrammes of cocaine for promotion.
Details of the case date back to April 2021 when a customs inspector at Dubai airport suspected a traveller’s bag.
According to the Customs inspector, when he asked the suspect if he had items in his bag he would like to disclose, he said no, but the inspector noted that the suspect was embarrassed when he opened the bag for inspection.
The inspector reportedly found a white substance which was suspected to be cocaine.
The suspect denied knowing about the seizures, claiming that the bag belonged to a relative, who gave it to him one day before travelling to deliver to someone living in Dubai.
According to the criminal lab report, the seized material proved to be cocaine.
