Abu Dhabi Police announce Dhs1,000 fine, 6 black points for dumping used face masks on roads

Abu Dhabi Police have warned against the dumping of used face masks and gloves on roads, streets, and public facilities.

They said motorists who do this will be fined Dhs1,000 and slapped with 6 black points.

In a statement, Abu Dhabi Police noted the hazardous health and environmental risks that such dumping acts can pose to the community as a whole.

The police said that the correct way to discard a mask was to place it in a plastic bag and then put it in a dustbin.

“People should also wash their hands after handling used masks,” the statement added.

Throwing used masks - if contaminated - could spread the coronavirus.

They also noted that carrying out preventive measures to curb the virus was the responsibility of every member of the community.
