A 30-year-old unemployed Arab man was arrested for impersonating an undercover police officer in women's attire and robbing an Asian man of Dhs6,700 in Al Rigga, Dubai.
During investigations, the victim testified at on the night of the incident at around 1:00am he went to a payment kiosk machine to make some payment.
The moment victim stopped his car near the payment kiosk to use the machine, the defendant suddenly entered the vehicle and sat in the passenger seat next to the victim.
“I thought it was a woman as he wore women clothing and make-up, but I was shocked to hear a male's voice,” the victim said.
The confused victim was taken by surprise while the defendant said “I will let you know who am I,” and took out a white card with police’s logo on it.
Believing that the defendant was an undercover police officer, the victim followed his instructions and drove towards a side street which was quite dark.
The victim revealed, “He asked me to pull over and take out my wallet, then snatched all the money out before returning it. He then exited the vehicle and told me to drive away.”
He added “When I asked the defendant to return the money back, he punched me twice.”
However, the victim also mentioned that half of the stolen amount belonged to his friend.
He was afraid to resist during the bizarre incident as he believed that the defendant was an undercover police officer.
Police were later alerted about the incident and investigations were immediately carried out to identify the thief.
The defendant was successfully arrested and the case was referred to criminal court for further legal procedures.
The defendant who had previously also committed similar crimes, was arrested in women's attire and in possession of Dhs12,375.
