The Abu Dhabi Court of Cassation upheld a judgment that obligated a yacht’s owner to pay compensation of Dhs2.058 million to the insurance company, which compensated a number of yachts damaged by a fire caused by the first yacht.
Earlier, the insurance company filed a lawsuit demanding that the defendant pay it Dhs2.301 million, which it paid to others as a compensation for damage incurred by their yachts because of a fire that erupted in the defendant’s yacht.
It also said that the insurance company got final rulings that proved the defendant’s liability for the fire and its effects. According to the official reports, the fire spread to the dock, damaging other yachts which were anchored there. The company had to pay compensation to them, as they were insured by it.
The Court of First Instance obligated the defendant to pay the insurance company Dhs2.058 with legal interest of 5% from the date of the final judgment’s issuance until the full payment.
