The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced an Asian to 10 years in jail to be followed by deportation and fined him Dhs50,000 after he was convicted of importing and possessing 7 kilograms of marijuana and attempting to bring them into the UAE via Dubai International Airport.
The case dated back to last January when a customs inspector suspected a carton belonging to the convict who came from an Asian country. The inspector stated during the interrogations that after he stopped the convict, he inspected his carton where 6 plastic rolls, which were wrapped with a brown adhesive tape and contained a dry material suspected to be narcotics.
The inspector added that he referred the convict to the General Department of Anti-Narcotics and the materials to the Dubai Police’s Forensic Lab where the seized material was found to be marijuana and weighed 7 kilograms.
On interrogation, the convict confessed to having imported and possessed the seized material in order to bring it into the UAE and deliver it to another person.
