German police have arrested a knife-wielding man after he stabbed 3 people to death in the southern city of Wuerzburg on Friday. Around six others sustained serious injuries, according to initial reports.
An amatuer video showed people throwing chairs and cartons at the attacker and eventually chasing him away from the scene.
The police confirmed that the attacker was apprehended after an officer used a firearm against him.
The officers were alerted around 5pm to a knife attack on the Barbarossa Square, police spokeswoman Kerstin Kunick said.
Police assured the public on Twitter that there is no danger to the population and asked social media users to refrain from speculation.
Wuerzburg is located between Munich and Frankfurt.
