Humanity never dies. And that was evident during the latest encounter between security forces and militants in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on Monday.
In the midst of a raging gunfight, two Kashmiri policemen were seen moving a feeble elderly man to safety.
The eye-catching picture from Maloora, Parimpora, in Srinagar, speaks volumes for the daily struggle Kashmiris face.
A resident in Parimpora, who only shared his initials, “AM,” said we have got used to the sounds of gunfire and shelling.
“But we refuse to budge and continue to live. This is our land and we withhold its culture and tradition.”
Reacting to the picture, AM said, “This is our culture, we don’t leave anybody behind…”
The gunfight was the result of a tip-off that police and the army received about militants hiding in the area. The forces sealed the area for the operation.
As soon as the security forces came near the militants’ hideout, they came under heavy firing.
Local media reported that three Indian forces were injured in the gunbattle in Maloora, while a militant has been shot dead.
