Saudi Arabia seizes 4.5 million Captagon tablets in orange shipment

Saudi Arabia revealed, on Wednesday, that the Customs Authority thwarted an attempt to smuggle more than 4.5 million amphetamine tablets, known locally as Captagon, to the Kingdom hidden in a shipment of oranges.
The report did not mention the source of the narcotics.
The local media report stated that the authority was able to thwart an attempt to smuggle a quantity of Captagon pills.
The Jeddah Islamic Port authority said drugs were found hidden inside a consignment received amounted to 4,540,000 pills.
The authority said that a consignment was received through Jeddah Islamic Port, consisting of cartons of oranges, and when it was subjected to customs procedures and examined through x-ray machines.
They detected large amount of Captagon pills hidden under the orange cartons.
The authority added that after the seizure of the drugs, the case was transferred to the General Directorate of Narcotics Control was completed to take legal measures.
The Saudi authorities arrested the people for whom the consignment was scheduled for inside the Kingdom.
Recently, Saudi Arabia customs had seized 14.4 million amphetamine tablets from Lebanon.

A report by the Saudi Press Agency stated that the General Directorate of Narcotics Control, in coordination with the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority at Jeddah Islamic Port, seized the tablets, which were hidden inside a shipment of iron plates.
On Tuesday, the Lebanese Internal Security Forces announced that the Anti-Narcotics Bureau had thwarted the smuggling of a large quantity of Captagon narcotic pills to Saudi Arabia.
In a statement, the Public Relations Division of the General Directorate of the Internal Security Forces said, “On June 21, 2021,
information was available at the Central Narcotics Control Office in the Judicial Police Unit, about some smugglers were preparing to receive new drugs consignment in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
They were arrested.
The drugs were hidden inside medical equipment.”
